PLACE Design Group and the Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning (DSDIP) has claimed the Wendy Chadwick Encouragement Award in the Queensland-wide Planning Institute of Australia’s (PIA) 2014 Awards for Planning Excellence.

At a ceremony held in Brisbane on Friday 7 November, PLACE Design Group and DSDIP were honoured for producing Delivering Prosperity and Growth Through Planning Schemes: A Guide to Leading Practice Planning Scheme Drafting.

PIA State President (Qld) Kate Isles said the awards judges welcome the initiative, as it directly addresses needs within the planning industry.

“The planning industry is always seeking to improve itself, and this initiative directly addresses a need in the industry to better acknowledge the importance of ensuring technical feasibility and commercial viability are central considerations for good planning practice,” Ms Isles said.

“This guide is an excellent foundation for a wide range of related guides and materials, including tailored planning products for councillors and council planners and guidelines for industries related to planning (e.g. law, environmental, engineering).”

Ms Isles said the calibre of entries in this year’s awards were very high.

“We’ve been thrilled with the quality and diversity of the entries in this year’s awards, which demonstrate just how many projects are contributing to a brighter future for Queensland,” Ms Isles said.

“Congratulations go to each individual and project team who have received an award – your projects have been recognised as being outstanding among a very strong and deep field of quality entries.”
