The role
We are looking to find the person best suited for the role and will be considering your knowledge, skills, experience, potential for development and future contribution to the department as well as your personal qualities and how they contribute to building a diverse workforce that reflects the Queensland community.
As the Planning Manager you will lead the Mackay, Isaac and Whitsunday team based in Mackay delivering customer focused, high-quality planning and development outcomes for the current and future Queensland communities.
You will have the opportunity to contribute technical expertise and planning and development best practice to the regions we service. By joining the Queensland

What you will be doing
- Provide leadership to a regionally based planning team, overseeing performance in policy advice, technical assistance, statutory assessment, processing, training, and corporate policy.
- Foster an equitable workplace through contemporary leadership and management practices.
- Prepare and implement work unit plans, contributing to strategic policy formulation, operational plans, budget preparation, and overall management decisions.
- Provide expert, professional advice on the interpretation and application of the Planning Act 2016 to various stakeholders, including local government officials, state government executives, and professional consultancies.
- Coordinate and lead team efforts for effective state agency participation in whole-of-Government matters of state or regional significance in local government plans and land use planning processes.
- Represent the department and sustainable planning in a range of forums and committees as required.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, delivering clear and direct briefings on complex planning matters to executive leadership teams, and perform additional tasks as required by the Regional Director and team members.

Mandatory requirements
Current and valid Driver’s License
Tertiary qualifications in land use planning and extensive statutory and strategic planning experience in the public and/or private sector is highly desirable.
The role may require travel to city and regional or remote locations including overnight stays
Leadership competencies
It is recognised that everyone is a leader regardless of classification level. Refer to the Program Leader stream of the framework to understand the expectations for this role.
