Assessment Officer Planning
An opportunity to join our Development Services team, where you’ll play an integral role in the enhancement of our built environment within The Barossa Council’s community. Utilise your knowledge and experience within the planning industry to ensure an outstanding customer experience through the delivery of technical expertise and procedural guidance.
We’re seeking an individual who takes pride in their collaborative approach working within a team environment and ability to achieve compliance within strict legislative timeframes and assessment regulations. In this role, you will work within the Development Services team, responsible for the assessment and reviews of development applications across The Barossa Council region, encounter projects from residential, commercial, industrial and rural developments and liaise with community members to maintain high service standards.
Key responsibilities:
- Efficiently and effectively receive, process, assess and make recommendations on planning applications to a final decision ensuring compliance with all relevant administrative requirements, Acts, regulations and legislation.
- Undertake professional and timely processing of development applications, in accordance with legislative requirements.
- Deliver sound professional technical planning and development advice to the community and key stakeholders.
- Assist the Development Services team in achieving strategic outcomes and objectives.
- Undertake inspections and investigate complaints in relation to alleged breaches of legislation.
To be successful you will need:
- Knowledge and understanding of planning assessment, the planning industry and a passion for enhancing the built environment.
- Excellent communication skills to guide customers through complex enquiries.
- Key technical knowledge of relevant Acts, regulations and codes including the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016 and Local Government Act 1999.
- Experience in the delivery of end-to-end planning assessment process compliant with relevant Acts.
- Interest, understanding and insight into the longer-term goals and objectives of the organisation.
- The ability to read and analyse plans and specifications and to source and interpret relevant information.
- An excellent ability to work within a team environment autonomously and to engage in knowledge sharing for the benefit of learning and development.

This is a full-time, permanent position offered at General Officer Level 3 – 5 ($76,757 - $92,697) under our Enterprise Agreement 2022. Essential position requirements
- This position requires you to hold and provide evidence of a current and valid National Police Check (NPC) before being appointed to the position.
