Agile Planning and Placemaking: The Inside Story and walk-shop
There is a lot of talk about the limitations of master-planning. But what does the alternative look like in the real world? Can agile planning and agile placemaking produce genuine, long-term revitalisation of a space, and not just temporary ‘feel good’ changes?
David Engwicht and Creative Communities have pioneered new approaches to agile placemaking with their 7-Day Makeover, which has transformed over 30 town centres across Australia and New Zealand. One of the most successful was Wellard Village in WA.
In this engaging learning experience:
- Learn the ‘tricks of the trade’ (many invented by Creative Communities) that enable communities like Wellard Village to makeover their town centre in 7 days, without getting bogged down in endless talk and planning. (The 7 days includes all the planning.)
- Get the inside story from the process's participants: the City of Kwinana, sponsors, and volunteers. Ask them about their experience.
- Walk through the town centre and discover the placemaking secrets that were employed to transform it. For example, learn the power of using ‘eddy spaces’ to create ‘linger nodes’. Hear about the challenges and experiences of the players.
This is a real-world exploration of agile planning a placemaking that has been a catalyst for significant revitalisation.
