This half-day session will be a traditional in-person seminar-style course with interactive sessions and Q&A.
Designed For:
Delving Deeper into Heritage Management is designed for those who attended session 1 (delivered in July 2022), and/or local government heritage officers and consultants involved in identifying and protecting historic heritage places.
By the end of this course, participants will be given an understanding of:

How heritage fits within the local planning scheme structure required under the Planning and Development (Local Planning Scheme) Regulations, 2015, the Heritage Act, 2018 and associated Heritage Council Guidelines. The role of councils and officers, administering policies, understanding the owner's needs and making the whole thing happen. How to communicate processes and procedures to owners relating to heritage.
Tools and Resources
Understanding the different report types and their application in managing heritage places, including Conservation Management Plans and Strategies, Heritage Impact Statements, Heritage Agreements, Heritage Assessments, Interpretation Plans. The role of local government officers, owners and heritage professionals, including expert witnesses.
Heritage Areas, Character Areas, and Sustainable development in the historic environment
In response to the planning framework of providing sustainable density increases in our traditional inner metropolitan areas there inevitably will be (and are) instances where heritage and new development come into contact. The key considerations for assessing the appropriateness of design in a heritage context will be introduced with some case studies on effective statutory and policy-led guidance.
Learning outcomes:

Understanding what ‘heritage management tools’ are best suited for the desired outcome.
