This course focuses on the basics of project management for planners, and how to manage a project whether that be a development application, strategic plan or other project from concept to delivery.
It provides an overview of time management & communication skills as well as an understanding of commercial or other specific drivers for projects which collectively help us understand how to better manage projects to achieve a collective outcome.
A basic ability to use MS Excel or similar software is a prerequisite for this course.

This course is useful for anyone who is interested in understanding the basics of project management as it applies to the role of a planner. This course while it will have a heavier focus on project management in development assessment planning, will provide everyone with an overview of project management which can be applied in any setting.
Learning outcomes:
At the end of this course, attendees will be equipped with knowledge in:
- development of the brief;
- project governance;
- community consultation;
- stakeholder engagement;
- budget management; and
- managing the client / provider relationship.

Hannah Tohill RPIA, Development Manager, Consolidated Properties Group
Hannah has over a decade of experience in the built environment, of which nearly 10 years was spent as a practicing planner in Queensland. Progressing through her career from graduate to Associate, Hannah has developed strong project management skills as she transitioned from pure support role to project lead on some of South East’s Queensland’s most diverse developments. Now working as a Development Manager, Hannah provides insight into the relationship between planner and developer, the importance of communication and time management, as well as other drivers that are critical for a project's success.
